“Bunny” — registered as Scimitar — was a two-year-old Arabian colt galloping in his pasture one night when he ran into a tree branch, driving a three-inch stick into his head and narrowly missing his brain. The head injury left him unable to stand or walk. He would be down for four long months, and a myriad of healing techniques were marshaled just to keep pneumonia and infection at bay.
With the help of T-touch practitioners, Reiki, an Alphasonic infrasound device, and careful treatment of his pressure sores, Bunny survived the months he spent down — an incredible demonstration of his will to live. When he was finally strong enough to be upright, the difficult work of getting him back on his feet was made possible by the Anderson Sling, generously donated for his use by Alamo Pintado Equine Hospital and Dr. Anderson.
Bunny’s journey — from the initial injury through an arduous, painful rehabilitation — was reported in horse magazines, discussed in chat rooms, and followed by enthusiasts across the globe. Much of his recovery was guided by advice from Ridecamp, an international equine email community whose members rallied around a colt none of them had ever met. Footage originally shot only for family and veterinarians became, at his fans’ urging, the basis for a film.
Aired on Dish Network and DirecTV, and featured on HorseTV, Bunny’s tale of courage touched and inspired countless viewers facing challenges of their own. HorseTV Media Group praised it as a genuinely inspiring story of faith, courage, and devotion — the saga of a special horse with an amazing will to live, and the small band of caring people who would not let him fail.
